Dr. Yuchen Chiu (affectionately known as âYCâ by people who know him), age 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Kaiser Medical Center in Sacramento. He was born on March 20, 1947, in Zhongli Township, Taoyuan County, Taiwan, to Tsu-ming and Wan-mei (Huang) Chiu. He graduated from Taipei Medical School in 1973 and came to the United States in December 1974. Starting as an intern at Mount Holly Hospital in New Jersey, he then completed a five-year Ob-Gyn residency at Hahnemann University School of Medicine and Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Pennsylvania. Because of his surgical training in Taiwan, he was far advanced, compared with his colleagues during his Ob-Gyn residency. He joined Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento in 1979 and became board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) in 1981. Dr. Chiu retired from the Ob-Gyn Department after 37 years of total dedication to serving his patients. In December 2015 he was acknowledged and honored by The Permanente Medical Group and ACOG in âHonor Your Mentorâ program. On his retirement, he was presented Outstanding Service Award for decades of invaluable care of Kaiserâs gynecologic oncology patients during 1979-2015. He was passionate about photography, classical music, fishing, gardening, and bonsai and was an avid reader. Dr. Chiu is survived by his mother Wan-mei, wife Takako, son Atsuo, and two brothers Cheng-chang and Cheng-hwei.
