Winnie Dean

November 3, 1956 — January 22, 2024

Sacramento

In the early morning of January 22, 2024, Winnie Dean quietly and peacefully took her last steps in her journey with us here on earth.

She was a bright, guiding light to all who knew her.  A loving, caring mother, sister, and aunt, as well as a steady rock for every friend, neighbor, student, and colleague she befriended.

Winnie’s passion for life was truly something to be experienced. She was a force to be reckoned with, making waves (she loved the ocean) wherever she went, and everyone who knew her felt truly blessed to be in her wake.

In her time here, Ms. Dean had many accomplishments. She was an educator for over 30 years.  She coached youth teams, and volunteered for so many organizations, they simply cannot be counted.

In life, anyone who knew Winnie would tell you what an avid animal lover and advocate she was.  One of her greatest pleasures in life has been her bulldogs.  They truly meant the world to her.

Winnie had a way of making everyone she met feel like family.  She will be sorely missed by all especially by her surviving immediate family. Her siblings include Greg (Martha) Dean, Pepe (Rick) Ward, Steffany McMurtrie, Shelley (Zeke) Mowatt.

Winnie’s children include Joshua Thomas and Amber (Corey) Chilson

Her grandchildren include Zoe, Aerilyn and Trezdon Chilson. She also has 7 adoring nieces and nephews.   Last but not least, Harlo, her faithful bulldog companion.

Sharing one of Winnie’s favorite quotes:

Choose Joy!

Don’t wait for things to get easier, simpler, better.  Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now, otherwise you’ll run out of time.

(Obituary lovingly prepared by Winnie’s niece, Jessica Dean)
