William Hall Zook

William Hall Zook was born January 22, 1947, in Glendale, California, to Ralph and Anna Zook.  He died peacefully in Sacramento on October 25, 2023, after battling dementia.  Bill moved to Sacramento in the second grade.  He met his wife of 51 years, Beverly, at McClatchy High School, where he graduated in 1965.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966.  Bill was an analyst assigned to the Army Security Agency and served in Sinop, Turkey and Chitose, Japan before being honorably discharged in 1972.  He obtained undergraduate degrees in economics and electrical engineering and computer science, and a master’s degree in computer science, all from U.C. Berkeley.  After a career in the Silicon Valley, Bill worked at the Department of Food and Agriculture and taught computer science at Sacramento City College before finally retiring.  He loved his family, baseball, history, and cheering for his alma maters and other local sports teams.  Over the years, he was a selfless giver of his time, coaching his children in youth sports, refereeing soccer, running the snack bar for McClatchy basketball games, and reading to elementary school students.  Bill was an avid walker until the end.  He is survived by his wife and their two children, four grandsons, and his two sisters.  Private services will be held.
