William Ng

December 1, 1939 — October 5, 2024

Sacramento

William Ng was born in Sacramento, California on December 1, 1939. The third child of seven siblings, William was born to Manuel Fong Ng and Helen Constance Lee. He passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 5th, 2024 surrounded by his wife Betsy and children Jason, Russell, and Sabrina by his side.

William went to William Land Elementary School, Cal Junior High, and graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School in 1957. While working full time, he attended evening classes at Sacramento City College where he graduated with a degree in the electrical field. In 1960, he joined the Army reserves for 2 years and ended his service at Fort Lewis in Washington State.

It was on the last day of high school when William met Betsy while signing her yearbook. After years of courtship, they got married and had 3 children. They spent many years traveling both domestically and internationally and took several cruises. They enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Branson Missouri, Hawaii, China, Panama Canal, Japan, Vietnam, and the Caribbean.

As many of you know, William excelled in his understanding of electricity and utilized this knowledge to have a long and successful career working for the state for 36 years and retired from Cal Trans as an electrical engineering tech. Outside of work, William used his electrical skills to fix things around his and his children's houses like the toaster oven, the washer and dryer, the grandkids' remote-control cars, electrical outlets, and ceiling fans among many other things. There was no task too small or too big that he couldn't handle.

William was very active in his younger days and loved to play tennis, ride his bike, go fishing, dig for horseneck clams at Bodega Bay, and go camping with his 27-foot trailer in tow. Even after he retired, he continued to be active and could be found bowling up until his late 70's or mowing his own lawn or trimming his hedges up until the age of 83! One thing he really enjoyed was BBQing a thick juicy steak or eating out at lunch regularly with his longtime friends and co-workers. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many sports events and rooting for them in basketball, gymnastics, tennis, and volleyball.

William is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betsy, children Jason (and wife Clarise), Russell (and wife Cynthia), Sabrina (and husband Mike), 6 grandchildren: Jordan (and wife Liz), Courteney (and husband Nolan), Tiffany, Justin, Emily, and William, and 2 great grandchildren: Ava and Ethan.

He is survived by his siblings: Irene, Richard and wife Joyce, Gwen, Sylvia, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Sister Nancy, brother Marvin, and in-laws Albert Owyoung and Albert Wong.

William or Willie, Uncle Willie, or Bill as some of you may call him will be dearly missed and we know that he was loved by many. His immediate family wants to express their sincere appreciation for everyone in attendance today and for all of the love and support they have received.
