William Arthur Dahlberg

February 27, 1932 — May 22, 2024

William "Bill" Dahlberg passed away peacefully in his home in Courtland, California on May 22nd, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born in Linwood Township, Anoka County of Minnesota. Bill was known as a straightforward and genuine man. At the age of 10, the family made their way to Sacramento, California. They settled in the Walnut Grove/Woodland area where Bill attended and graduated from Courtland High School. He was the second of eight siblings. Seven boys including himself and a sister, Dorothy, who kept them all in line.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. With a background of weightlifting, he participated in boxing matches while serving. He aspired to serve as a medic, but the Navy had other plans and assigned him as a Radio Operator, sending out messages in Morse Code. Out of 200 plus candidates, he received the highest score in his class.

He was also a member of the Sacramento Carpenter's Local Union 586. He worked as a journeyman carpenter for almost 40 years with W.M. Schauer & Sons Inc. in Walnut Grove, California. Bill also worked as a painter on the side.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Eva; sons Harry St. John, Steve Dwyer, Danette Dahlberg and Christopher Ochoa; his youngest brother Ted Dahlberg; many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian; his father Theodore; his bothers Edward, Alvin, Jerry, James and Terry; and lastly his sister Dorothy.

Bill was a caring, loving person who wanted to help everyone. Over the years he served in many community organizations, especially those involving his grandchildren's interests. These clubs included: the Regional Rural Health Project for Migrant Workers located in the Delta, the Courtland Cub Scouts where he was a cubmaster, the Elk Grove Girls Baseball League, the Delta Lions Club, the Delta Little League team where he was a coach in 1983, the Delta Environmental Clean-up Project, and most recently served on the Courtland Association Committee.

Bill loved to be in the garden, he was a garden enthusiast! He loved nurturing flowers and other plants and often brought his wife, Eva, a handful of flowers from his beloved garden. He also loved engaging in healthy political debates and shared his opinions willingly. He was a history buff of many eras, and could recall U.S. facts and dates at the drop of a hat.

He will be sorely missed.
