Wesley Arthur Massengale

January 16, 1933 — December 16, 2023

Sacramento

Wesley Arthur Massengale “Pete” born January 16, 1933 in Hughson, California.

He went to be with Jesus on December 16, 2023.  He lived in Citrus Heights, California during his last days. Other places he lived were  the Los Angeles area, Sacramento, Orangevale and Placerville all in California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Francis and Velma Murry Massengale. Pete was also preceded in death by his sister and his two brothers, Jamie Velta Massengale Powell “Jimbell”, Charles William Massengale “Bill” and Lesley Lafe Massengale “Jack”.

Pete was survived by his wife, Christine McClain Massengale, who was the love of his life. They were married on June 13, 1953.  Pete and Christine were blessed with two daughters, Vicki Marlene married to Joseph Connor and Kari Lou  married to Raymond Nelson. They were blessed with nine grandchildren:  Ryan Connor, married to Shannon DePonte, Shonda Connor married to Marcus Ayers. Aubree Nelson married to Paul Mackey, Trevor Nelson married to Sara Boone, Logan Nelson married to Debra Chaney. Quintin Nelson, Savannah Nelson, Blake Nelson and Damion Nelson. And they have 15 great-grandchildren: Connor and McKenna Ayers, Emma and Joseph Connor, Kayla, Avonlee, Judah and Selah Mackey, Rendi, Kacey, Tristan and Emmett Nelson, Raney, Landon and Iain Nelson.

Pete and Christine lived in the Los Angeles area for the first few years of their life together and he served as a conscientious objector. He later worked for United Parcel Service delivering furniture. They moved to Sacramento in 1956 and he worked for United Parcel Service delivering packages for 36 years.  He never felt like his job was work because he loved his job. He was a good role model for those he worked with because he was a great employee and co-worker. He was often asked to go into management but he loved being a delivery driver. He also taught his kids to work for their employers like they were working for God. Pete was a faithful follower of Jesus and a member of the church of Christ.  His greatest desire was for his loved ones to walk faithfully with the Lord.

He loved to sing and was singing hymns just one week before he passed.

In high school Pete was quite the baseball player.  He played first base and also ran track.

He was influential in many lives. He and Christine often had friends and relatives live with them who needed some help.  Their home was very welcoming. It was a place where many gathered to spend time together and there was always singing.

On Sunday mornings his family was awakened to him singing. Pete was a devoted husband and a doting father and grandfather.

He loved big and will be missed dearly.

And he always had a great head of hair.
