Walter Tarakanoff, 94, of Sacramento, CA, passed away with family at his bedside on Tuesday August 13, 2024 at 6:15pm.

He was born in Oakland CA on October 17, 1929, first generation Russian, his mother and father escaped out of Vladivostok and arrived in San Francisco July 2, 1923.

He was a graduate of Fremont High School in Oakland, 1948.

He retired as Major from the Air Force after 20 years in 1972. He then took 2 years off and decided to join the US Postal Service where he also retired after 20 years in 1994.

He met the love of his life, Sylvia and married her in 1960; while he was a Lieutenant stationed in Lincoln Nebraska and she was visiting the United States with 3 girl-friends from London England. They were married 51 years until her passing March 21, 2011.

He had 5 Dobermans over the course of many years. He was an avid dog walker meeting up with many dog owners at the dog park.

His passion was planes and bought his own in 2011 then finally selling it in 2018 at the age of 88.

Loving son of Pauline Sheputa and John Tarakanoff.

Proceeded in death by, his sister, Olga Boyle (2011) and his wife Sylvia F. Tarakanoff (2011). He is survived by daughters, Julie Villar (Victor), daughter Lori Anapolsky (Bruce) and 2 nephews Walter and Leslie Boyle, 5 grandchildren Amanda and Andrew Villar, Jacqueline, Jordan, and Morgan Anapolsky.
