Victor H. Johnson went to meet the Lord Jesus in Heaven on March 25, 2024, just short of his 95th birthday. Vic was born June 23, 1929 in Hardy, Iowa to Irene and Olaf Johnson. He grew up in Iowa, graduating from Graettinger High School. His life up until then was on the farm. He had two siblings, Don Johnson and Carol Hersom. Vic’s interests included baseball, basketball, and playing the clarinet. He wed Mavis Boness in 1950 and was happily married for almost 66 years. Vic enlisted in the Air Force being trained in electronics and radar. The Air Force prepared him for his future work with Bendix Corporation in the satellite tracking field. He was involved with Apollo moon expeditions, along with many other NASA/JPL space projects. His 210 foot dish antenna received the words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” It was then relayed to Houston, Texas.
Vic and Mavis attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. They considered serving God in their church one of the most important things in their lives.
Vic is survived by his sister, Carol Hersom, his children, Vic Johnson Jr, Dennis Johnson, Maureen Eastvold, and Paul Johnson; his 11 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mavis, his son, David Johnson and his brother, Don Johnson.
Vic loved God, his family, and his church until his final breath.
Vic’s Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
