Vesta Nelle Voigt

Vesta Nelle Byrd Voigt, 87, of Sacramento CA, passed away at home November 24, 2022 from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. She was born to Richard Brown Byrd and Euphemia Luzetty LaGrone on March 18, 1935 in Clovis, Curry, New Mexico, the youngest of six children. She graduated from Pomona High School in 1951, attended Brigham Young University for a short time, and married Robert Elmer Voigt in 1955. Vesta is survived by her sister Vyondelle Lee of Elk Grove, her husband Robert of Sacramento, and their eight children: Lisa (Eric) Stevens of Elk Grove, Julie (Thomas) Seymour of Vista, Allison (Ray) Hamaker of Sacramento, Rebecca Whipple of Sacramento, Elizabeth (Jack) Schubert of Casa Grande AZ, Margaret (Gene) Munger of Fair Oaks, Sarah (Lee) Burt of Natomas, and Thomas (Kacie) Voigt of Rancho Cordova. Vesta and Bob had 34 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Vesta was talented in music. She sang alto in the choir and enjoyed popular and classical music, filling the house with it, and encouraging her children to sing and play various instruments. She was an excellent secretary with outstanding typing, shorthand, and editing skills. Her good ideas were appreciated by management. She had many office support jobs in her teen years, then worked for the CA Dept of Education in the 60s and for the LDS Social Services in the 90s. Vesta was an excellent cook and a consummate hostess. She loved word games and had a keen sense of humor. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling many leadership roles with joy and accomplishment, serving two missions with Bob in New Jersey and Utah. They also served together for many years in the Oakland Temple and the Sacramento Temple. Vesta loved adventure and travel. She and Bob flew in a glider airplane, rode a hot-air balloon and an ultralight plane, camped for many years, and traveled to visit family. She was talented, creative, industrious, and a loving mother.
Viewing ceremony will be held Friday, December 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, 9189 E Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove CA. The graveside service with a dedication prayer and burial will be held at 12 noon, Saturday December 10th at East Lawn. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3001 Wissemann Dr, Sacramento 95826. A Zoom link will be provided for those who are not able to attend in person.
