Tony Ong

October 28, 1962 — July 21, 2025

Sacramento

Tony Ong, 62, of Sacramento, CA, passed away early in the morning on July 21, 2025, from lung cancer, with his mother by his side as she had been throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his father, Yau Foon Ong. Tony is survived by his mother, Jeanne Ong, sister Elizabethe Heagerty, sister Julie Clary, brother Eugene Ong, brothers-in-law Michael Heagerty and Thomas Clary, sister-in-law Agnes Ong, nephews Matthew Heagerty, William Heagerty, and Justin Clary, nieces Quinn Clary, Emily Ong and Allison Ong, his Aunt Christina Choi, and Uncle King Wong. Tony Ong was born on October 28, 1962, in Sacramento, where he lived his entire life. Tony was severely autistic from birth and cared for by his immediate family and grandmother. Although Tony did not have many verbal skills, he found ways of communicating in his own way, mostly with family members and committed teachers at Alta California Regional Center. He loved solving puzzles, tearing paper, and eating wonderful food prepared by his restaurant-owning family. He was loved and cared for by his family for the entirety of his life, no one more key than his mother, Jeanne Ong. As a friend said when Tony was in declining health, “Jeanne never gave up on Tony from the moment he was born to his last days”. Tony was a key component in uniting this family. Special appreciation is noted for Tony’s supporters at Alta California throughout his life and the team of care providers during his time of rapid declining health. The funeral service and burial will be a private ceremony. Any personal notes or flowers in remembrance of Tony are welcome and to be delivered to East Lawn Cemetery at 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA by August 1, 2025.
