Sylvia Wong Obituary
Sylvia Wong, incredible mother, wife, and sister passed away on February, 1, 2026, at the age of 84.
Sylvia was born on January 6, 1942 in Sacramento, CA. She is survived by her daughter Natalie Wong (Tim Guay); grandsons Nicholas Burgess, Jackson Burgess, Nathaniel Guay, and Dylan Guay; son in-law Mark Wolter; siblings Irene Owyoung, Richard Ng (Joyce), and Gwen Ng; and many nieces and nephews who fondly called her Auntie Sylvie. She is predeceased by her daughter Jennifer, husband Albert, and siblings Nancy Wong, William Ng, and Marvin Fong.
Sylvia graduated from Sacramento Senior High School in 1960 and attended San Jose City College, where she trained in the dental field. She later moved to San Francisco, where she enjoyed her work and the life she built in the city.
While living there, she met her husband, Albert, with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. After several years in Daly City, where they welcomed their two daughters, they settled in Benicia to raise their family. During those years, Sylvia devoted herself to her daughters’ lives—volunteering at school, supporting their activities, and always being present when it mattered most. She was also a trusted and caring presence for many of their friends, who found in her a patient listener and thoughtful source of guidance, forming bonds that lasted well beyond childhood.
Later in life, she adopted a dog and discovered the joy of canine companionship, happily becoming the family’s devoted “granddog” sitter. When her grandsons arrived, they quickly became the center of her world. As “Grammie”, she was their enthusiastic playmate and imaginative storyteller, creating magical bedtime adventures that became treasured memories—and set a standard her daughters could never quite match.
Sylvia loved mystery and espionage films—often international ones with subtitles—and especially enjoyed sharing popcorn and recliner seats at the theater with her grandsons. Dim sum and Chinese meals were a cherished family tradition that brought everyone together around the table.
She had a rare gift for listening with empathy and understanding. With sharp intuition and practical wisdom about people and life, she had an instinctive ability to read situations clearly and respond with sound judgment. Beneath her gentle nature was quiet strength, along with a quick wit and warm sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by family and friends.
A private memorial service will be held 11am on Saturday, March 21, at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4300 Folsom Blvd, Sacramento, CA.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that memorial tributes to honor Sylvia’s life be made in the form of donations to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
