Suruj Lal

“ Suruj “Sunny” Lal, aged 73, residing in Elk Grove, California passed away on May 4th, 2023.

Suruj, born on December 9th, 1949, grew up in Suva, Fiji Islands on 9 Dawa Street, Flagstaff. He is the younger son of Nand and Dhan Pati Lal and the third youngest of 12 siblings. Suruj attended DAV Boys School in Suva. 

On July 22, 1972 he married Chandra Mati and they immigrated to the United States on September 12th, 1972. He worked as a forklift driver for THARCO for 40 years before retiring in 2017.

Suruj had a full life, often enjoying his time with his wife, kids, grandkids, and family. He liked dancing, socializing, traveling, and having a glass of Johnny Walker.

He is survived by his wife: Chandra; son, Simmon; daughter: Sarika; daughter-in-law: Praveena; son-in-law: Enoch; five grandchildren: Shannon, Justin, Kynan, Layla, and Melanjia; grandson-in-law: Nathan; five siblings; and many more cousins, nieces, nephews, and loved ones.”
