Steven Paul Kolch

Steven Paul Kolch died unexpectedly in his home on March 26, 2023, two days after his 70th birthday.  He was born on March 24, 1953 to Rev. Paul Kolch and Pauline Kolch Schroeder in Akron, Ohio. As a child his family moved from Ohio to Kentucky and then settled in Sacramento, California where his father was a minister of Trinity Lutheran Church.  Steve graduated from C.K. McClatchy High School and     California State University, Sacramento with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accountancy.  Steve married Susan McVey Miller in 1975 and they raised two daughters.

Steve had the opportunity to become a journeyman meat cutter and was part owner in Spitzer’s Quality Meats for many years.  After completing his Degree, he then went to work for Sacramento  County and retired from the Thunder Valley   Casino Resort.  Steve was never content to stay inside as he sought various jobs after hours and during vacations working outside at golf courses and  other venues as a handyman.

In his youth Steve played football, baseball, participated in track and was also very active in his church youth program Steve loved working on cars and in fact, built an engine from scratch.  He was a master at “Do It Yourself” projects which included building a  backyard deck, replacing fences and painting to name just a few of the home improvements. But his first love was raising and being with his daughters, Stephanie and Julie. He enjoyed attending soccer games, school events and family vacations in Santa Cruz.

Steve was predeceased by his father, Rev. Paul Kolch.  He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Brannen (Rob), Julie Olson (Justin), his granddaughters Allison Brannen and Caitlin Brannen, his mother Pauline Schroeder, and sister  Linda Elkins (Rick). Donations in Steve’s honor may be made to a charity of your choice.
