It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of retired Sergeant Steve Pietrek. Steve passed away peacefully in the company of family and loved ones on Monday, January 13th.
Steve began his career with the Sacramento Sheriffâs Office in 1976. He held assignments at the old Main Jail, Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center, North Patrol and Detectives. He achieved the position of Field Training Officer (FTO) in patrol and was known for his high degree of knowledge and challenging teaching methods. He became affectionately known as, âIcemanâ during his tenure.
In 1993, Steve promoted to Sergeant where he held assignments at the New Main Jail and North Patrol before retiring in 2004. Steve returned as a retired annuitant working assignments like TS - arrestee transportation before ultimately retiring in 2016. He was known as, âa Cops Copâ who found his true calling in the field of Law Enforcement.
In retirement Steve loved spending quality time with family and friends. He truly enjoyed any opportunity to, âget together with the boys.â He had a passion for travel and riding his Can-Am motorcycle.
Steve leaves behind his longtime loving companion, Jan Martin, daughter, Officer Jennifer OâNeill of the Phoenix Police Department, son, Deputy Michael Pietrek who is currently assigned as a POP officer in North Division, and 3 grandchildren, James, Aidan and Kaci. Steve was most proud of the fact his children followed him into Law Enforcement, especially his son who works for âhisâ department. He went out on his own terms and stayed tough until his last breath.
