Stanley "Stan the Man Bode", affectionately known to many as "Hard Core Bode," of Elk Grove, California, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025 at the age of 84 years old. Born on August 30, 1941, in Sacramento to Walter and Sally Bode. Stanley's time on Earth will one day be remembered through the stories and endeavors that honored his name. The spirit of his legacy---STOIC, Calm and Loyal---would carry on through future generations and throughout his family's history.
Stan's life became one of community, camaraderie, and character. A proud business owner, he operated Stan's Liquor and Deli and Murphy's Bar--both long-standing landmarks that brought laughter and fellowship to many in Elk Grove. Known for his old Yellow Truck and his old Model A Ford, Stan loved showing it off during the annual Western Festival and bringing a smile to every one he met. His quiet determination and pride in his town shown through in his sponsorship of local baseball teams and even a race car, always cheering from the sidelines with his trademark hat----one from his extensive collection.
After retirement, Stan found renewed purpose volunteering aboard the SS Jerimiah O'Brien, a World War ll Liberty Ship docked in the San Francisco Bay. There, he served as a cook, lending his hands and heart to maintaining a living piece of history. Ever adventurous, he delighted in travel and meeting people wherever he went.
Stan is survived by his daughter, Lisa Burleson, his Grandsons, Justin and Zachary Burleson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Sally Bode, and his brother Edward Bode. He has two great grandchildren, Hunter and Saga Burleson.
A service to honor Stanley's life will be held at East Lawn Memorial Service and Mortuary on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00pm with Military Honors. Burial will be at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California on Monday, October 27, 2025 at 11:00am.
