Sharon Roberta Guess

After a brave battle with cancer, Sharon Roberta Guess was called home on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the age of 81. She passed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sharon was born in Pueblo, Colorado on April 11, 1943 to her parents Joseph and Sara Burton. Her brother Joe, affectionately known as Rocky, followed several years later. The family moved o La Junta, Colorado, where Sharon attended La Junta High School. It was there that she met her future husband, Robert Guess. They married on September 22, 1963. Sharon’s lifelong dream was to become a teacher. She accomplished her goal with a degree from Colorado State College at Greeley in 1966, and went on to teach for the next few decades; first in Colorado, then later in California. It was in California that she obtained her Masters Degree from California State University at Sacramento. Her teaching career was highlighted with multiple awards for her dedication to her students, with many of her former students seeking her out on social media years after leaving her class.

Sharon’s love of teaching was exceeded only by her love for her family. She and Robert had four daughters and one son. The family tree grew further with the addition of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an incredibly devoted mother and grandmother who was always there whenever any of her children needed her. Her steadfast love left an indelible mark on the entire family.

Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Robert; and her eldest daughter, Shanda. She is survived by her children Stacie, Carie, Cindi, and Damon, 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her beloved brother Rocky, many nephews, nieces, friends and former colleagues.

Her kindness, strength, patience, and genuine love for others will be forever missed.
