Scot Morris Crocker

Scot Crocker, a leading community leader and entrepreneur passed away recently after a short illness. Scot was a lifelong resident of Sacramento and devoted to community growth and success. After a few years as a journalist, Mr. Crocker started a career in advertising and opened his own PR and communications firm at 29 years old known as CW Crocker Communications.

After ten years, he joined with David Flanagan to form Crocker/Flanagan which they grew into one of the largest and most creative agencies in Northern California. Mr. Crocker was considered a leading marketing expert and strategist serving government, associations and a wide variety of clients in different categories.

He achieved many honors in his life including Small Business Person of the Year twice by the Sacramento Metro Chamber, Marketer of the Year twice by the American Marketing Association, Prelude award by the Sacramento Business and Arts Council and Professional of the Year by the Sacramento Public Relations Association.

Mr. Crocker served as chair of the board for the American Marketing Association Sacramento Valley, v Center for Blood Research, Sacramento Walk of Stars, and Boy Scouts of America Golden Empire Council.

He served as a board member of the Sacramento Metro Chamber, Sacramento Theatre Company, Sacramento Business & Arts Council, California Association of Public Information Officials, the California State Information Officers Council, California Association of Leadership Programs, EO Sacramento and Sacramento Rotary Foundation.

He founded the Sacramento Walk of Stars with Lucy Crocker and Jeff Hallsten. He also was a founder of the Sacramento Children’s Festival which ran for eight years with an attendance of over 100,000 people in Old Sacramento and Downtown Plaza.

He was an avid tennis player and golfer, and enjoyed writing, having completed a novel, Gabriel’s Breeze, and stage play, Crossing Love and Haight.

Mr. Crocker had many groups of friends including his high school pals, college buddies, golf and tennis friends, and his colleagues in the American Leadership Forum, Entrepreneurs Organization Sacramento, Leadership Sacramento and Adcom.

Mr. Crocker is survived by his children Lauren and Colin Crocker, sisters Diann Smith and Donna Riggins and his loving partner Carolyn Coleman along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Van and Elizabeth Crocker, and his brother Clarke Crocker.
