Ruth Harris

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Ruth Harris, 95, of Sacramento, California, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2025, in Roseville, California, surrounded by her beloved family.

Ruth was born on March 20, 1930, in Wheatfield, Alabama, to John and Fakie Taylor. On June 17, 1966, she married Howard Harris, and they moved their newly combined family to Sacramento, California. Ruth graduated from Sacramento City College and embarked on a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse, working for many years at Methodist Hospital until she retired.

Ruth was many things. She was a matriarch, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, confidante, and advisor. As the official “family doctor,” she was always the first, last, and most trusted medical opinion for her loved ones. Ruth always had a laugh, smile, sage wisdom, and unfiltered opinion that will be dearly missed. Her faith was unwavering. Her silk-clad strength was unending. Her grace was unmatched. Her accomplishments outshone her challenges. She had an ear for whoever needed it, and there was always space at her table for one more or a whole family more.

She was preceded by her devoted and loving husband, Dr. Howard L. Harris, her daughter, Linda Holloway (Dewayne Holloway), her sister, Eveylyn Moore, and her parents, John and Fakie Taylor. She is survived by her sons, Dee Ireland Lewiss, William Harris (Cammie Harris), and Kevin Harris. She will be deeply missed by her granddaughters, Carousel Gore, Tiffany Jones, Jocelynn Jones, and Maya Harris, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, and countless chosen family who called her “Mom” or “Gram”.

The viewing for Ruth will be hosted on October 2, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.at East Lawn in Elk Grove, California. Her celebration of life will be held on October 5, 2025, at Living Way Community Church in Roseville, California.

While we always miss and mourn Ruth. However, we know she is at peace and standing in grace surrounded by loved ones who preceded her and waited patiently for her to join them.
