He is predeceased by his parents Margaret Huseman and Dallas Philpott, his first wife Alice Philpott, his brother Don Philpott, and his son David Philpott. He is survived by wife of 38 years, Harryette Philpott, his children; Robert (Holly) Philpott, Derek Wilson (Amanda Steiner), Jennifer (Luis) Hernandez, Tiffany (Jamie) Huffman, and Candiz Philpott (Jacob Brannam). He leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
Russell was born in Hampton, Iowa on February 15, 1947. He moved to California with his family when he was 8 years old, in 1955. He graduated from Highlands High School, in North Highlands, CA in 1965. He met his first wife Alice in high school and they had 2 sons, Robert and David Philpott. Alice passed away when the boys were teenagers. Russell coached the boys in the Larchmont Little League and was also a board member on the league for many years while the boys were young, through their teenage years. He also coached them in the North Highlands Youth Soccer Club.
Russell met his wife Harryette in January 1983. It wasnât long after that, that he knew that she was the one and they were married on October 15, 1983. Harryette had two children, Derek and Jennifer and they would combine their families and add another daughter, Tiffany in June of 1984. On August 5, 2013 Russell and Harryette adopted Candiz Philpott, a granddaughter that they raised, from nine months old, as their daughter. This adoption completed their family of six children, three sons and three daughters.
Russell had many hobbies, coaching the little league and attending all of his children and grandchildrenâs sporting events was one of them. He also used to be an avid golfer. He would go golfing every Sunday with his friends and on occasion took Tiffany as his caddy. Russell bowled in a bowling league every Friday night with Harryette in the league that she ran and still runs today, as secretary, the Friday Fives. Russellâs most favorite thing in the world was his family. Seeing his grandchildren in performances, sports, or just seeing them laugh and have fun at his house always brought the biggest smile to his face.
He was an avid Dodger and Rams fan for his whole life. GO RAMS!! Superbowl 2022 here we come! His favorite all time player was Kurt Warner.
In lieu of a funeral service the family will be holding a celebration of life for Russell on February 15, 2022 (what would have been his 75th birthday) at 4:00pm at the VFW Hall, 3300 U Street, Antelope, CA 95843. Please be sure to notify the family if you wish to attend.
