Rosemercy Yasa Quilalang peacefully passed away in her home on May 8th, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. She was 80 years old.
Born on August 30, 1944, in Aklan, Philippines, Rosemercy was the beloved daughter of Rustico Cuales Yasa and Mercedes Magno, and stepdaughter of Joe Magno. In 1959, at just 15 years old, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Oakland, California, where her life and legacy would begin to blossom.
It was at a bus stop on their way to Oakland City College where she met the love of her life, Moises Quilalang, who was instantly taken by her beauty and kind spirit. That chance meeting led to a beautiful marriage that lasted 60 years—full of love, laughter, and partnership. Together, they raised two children, Michael Quilalang and Candice Quilalang Dela Cruz, in San Leandro, California.
Rosemercy was known for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and a heart that overflowed with compassion. She had an uncanny way of making people feel cared for and seen. With a heart of gold, she devoted 37 years to banking before retiring from Wells Fargo—a testament to her dedication, work ethic, and grace.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: hunting for treasures in thrift stores, baking sweets for loved ones, tending to her flourishing plants, cheering during casino trips, and spending time with friends and family. Her love for travel reflected her adventurous spirit, and no gathering was ever complete without her warmth and joyful presence.
Rosemercy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Moises; her children and their spouses, Michael (Roselli) and Candice (Edward); her cherished grandchildren, David (Monica), Jordan, Crystalyn (Derick), Brandon, Angelina, Samantha, Vanessa and Alexia; and her great-granddaughter, Ava. She is also survived by her two sisters, many dear sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives she deeply touched.
She is now reunited with her parents, Rustico and Mercedes, her stepfather Joe, her brother Julius, her mother-in-law Leonora, father-in-law Julian, and sister-in-law Nenita Bactad.
Rosemercy’s love, humor, and unwavering kindness leave an imprint on all who knew her. Though she has departed this world, her legacy of love and light will continue to grow in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
