Roberta Luella Shelton, age 103, of Sacramento, CA, passed away on October 22, 2023, from respiratory complications.

Roberta (Bert) was born on December 15, 1919 to James Monroe Piercy (1895-1962) and Susan Anna Lowrance (1896-1961) in Lamoni, Decatur County, IA. She graduated high school in 1937.  Moved to Calico Rock, AR in 1938 to work as a telephone switchboard operator.   There, in 1940 she married Cecil Rayvon Shelton.  After the war they decided to travel to seek better employment. Working for a few years in apple orchards and frozen food plants in Monitor, WA.  Eventually moving to Wichita, KS to work in the aircraft industry in 1952. Bert worked as a silk screener for Beechcraft making $8 per hour when retiring in 1975. In 1986 Bert and Cecil moved to Sacramento, CA to be closer to family. Bert was known for her fine needle work in quilting, sewing, and crocheting.

Bert was preceded in death by her husband Cecil (1919-2003), brothers Marion Piercy, Howard Piercy, James Piercy, and sister Dorothy Altieri.

Bert is survived by sisters JoAnn Roiland and Ruth Dobbs; son Larry Rayvon Shelton; grandsons Kevin Vance Shelton and Kyle Rayvon Shelton; great grandchildren Haley, Hanna, Jared, Vanessa, Carl, and Brittany.

Services will be held at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback, Sacramento, CA on October 28, 2023 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, make donations to your favorite charity in Roberta’s name.
