Robert “Bobby” Galban was born in the town of Agoo, La Union, Philippines to Dominador and Ceferina Estacio Galban. Together they had 8 children, Efren, Bobby, Eddie, Danny, Manny, Gloria, Ramon, and Morry.
To assist with his large family, Bobby worked a variety of jobs including helping with the family food stand in the town square, trying out the seminary, and as a salesman managing milk products throughout Northern Philippines.
In 1968, Bobby immigrated to the United States to join his father, Doring. He then enlisted in the US Air Force training in Texas, Mississippi, and later completing a remote tour in Turkey as an admin. assistant and personal driver to a general.
In 1969 he returned to the Philippines to marry his sweetheart, Flora Casipit. They tied the knot on January 4, 1970 and settled in San Francisco, Ca. They had four children, Ronald, Tina, Divina, and Robert Jr. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bobby began a 33 year career in the US Postal service as a mail carrier.
In addition to providing for his family, Bobby enjoyed serving in leadership positions. He was President of the Young Agooians of California, President and co-founder of the Association of Filipino Postal Carriers of San Francisco, and an officer for the Global St. Mary’s Academy Alumni Association. Bobby was also an avid fan of watching all the Bay Area sports teams, singing his favorite Engelbert and Tom Jones songs on the karaoke, and the occasional trip to the casino with friends and family.
Over the years, his family of 4 children grew to include son/daughter-in-laws and 5 grandchildren, Alexandra, Devin, Dominic, Toni Janine, and Chloe Jane. After moving to Sacramento, Bobby and Flora spent their retirement years with family, especially being a big part of their grandchildren’s lives. Bobby never missed a graduation, award ceremony, play, recital, basketball game nor baseball game. He chaperoned field trips, fried lumpia for class parties, as well as the huge school festivals with the long lines for his fried lumpia!
Bobby’s love for family also extended to his love of God and faith as a Eucharistic Minister for St. Paul Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bobby is survived by his loving wife Flora, his 4 children and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, and his 6 siblings. In death he is reunited with his parents, Dominador and Ceferina, and his recently departed brother Ceferino “Eddie” Galban.
