Sacramento

Richard Lee Chestnut Jr., 54, of Sacramento, California, passed away on July 29, 2025. He was the beloved son of Richard and Joyce Chestnut and was born on October 9, 1970, in Circleville, Ohio. Richard was a devoted husband to Lisa Chestnut and a loving father to Ashley (Michael) Zotzman and Cody (Kati) Chestnut.

A man of unwavering faith and work ethic. Richard dedicated his life to God, his family, and his friends. He had a rare ability to connect with anyone—regardless of background or circumstance—and was known for his selflessness and genuine friendship. Richard never hesitated to help others, often sacrificing his own comfort so others wouldn’t go without. He lived out the scripture, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” (Matthew 22:39)

Though he didn’t seek the spotlight, Richard deserves to be honored for a lifetime of love, service, and integrity. His kindness, generosity, and authenticity left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Together with Lisa, he raised two children and left a legacy grounded in faith, scripture, and the importance of investing in others. Richard was active in many church ministries and truly cherished time spent fellowshipping with those around him. Richard loved God and it showed in every aspect of his life. He played an active role in his children's lives from childhood through adulthood, offering unwavering support in their pursuits of ministry and education. He was incredibly proud of them along with their spouses and spoke of their accomplishments often. He deeply loved his children, his wife and sacrificed his own comforts for them.

Richard’s hobbies reflected his thoughtful, hands-on nature. He loved spending time with his family and had a particular talent for fixing things—a gift he passed on to his children. He believed that when something is broken, you don’t throw it away—you try to fix it first. He encouraged learning, teaching others to embrace curiosity and persistence. Although his children became educators by profession, Richard was their greatest teacher—imparting life skills and wisdom that couldn’t be found in any textbook.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; daughter, Ashley (Michael) Zotzman; son, Cody (Kati) Chestnut; aunt, Ruthie (Dave) Fish; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Beverly Payne and a host of extended family and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

While we mourn his passing, we take comfort in the legacy he leaves behind. Demonstrated by the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories we will hold close for the rest of our lives.
