Richard Lee Brooks

July 29, 1939 — September 6, 2024

Sacramento, CA

Richard Lee Brooks, a cherished father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Sacramento, California, at the age of 85. Born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Richard was the youngest of six siblings born to Bill and Nora Brooks. His family moved west during his early years, and he grew up in Burney, Woodland, and Chico, California.

Richard began his working life as a truck driver for his sister Mildred and brother-in-law Bill Hoyt. He later served in the Army as a teletype operator stationed in Semur, France. After returning to civilian life, Richard moved to Sacramento in the 1960s, where he worked as a carpenter and member of the Pile Drivers Union, contributing to the construction of numerous roads, bridges, and buildings in the northern California area.

Richard was known for his love of fishing in his younger years and his passion for watching Sacramento Kings basketball games with his family in his later years. He had a special bond with his dog, Mikey, and enjoyed hunting for bargains at thrift stores.

He is preceded in death by his siblings and his son, Phillip Lee Brooks. Richard is survived by his daughter, Tracy Taylor, and her husband Lawrence Taylor; their three children, Kylie, Samuel, and Jackson Taylor; and his son’s twin daughters, Gaia and Moria.

A service to honor Richard will be held at East Lawn Elk Grove Mortuary, 9189 E Stockton Blvd, Elk Grove, CA 95624, on September 19, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
