Ray was born to parents Raymond & Carmen Martinez in Los Angeles CA.
They relocated to Sanger CA in the late fourties where he worked along side of his parents at Barr Packing House and graduated from Sanger High School before his indoctrination of duty to The United States Navy in October of 1957.
A proud Veteran of the Armed Services; Ray served 37 years defending our country with honor, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) upon his discharge in 1994.
His first duty station was aboard The USS Bennington CV-20 as a Boatswain’s Mate in 1st Division after completing boot camp with Company 406 at Recruit Training Command US Naval Training Center, San Diego California. His relationships with his shipmates and his training forged Ray into the proud Sailor he is today.
Chief Martinez completed his commitment to The United States Navy Reserves in 1994 with MIUW 1920 based out of Treasure Island Naval Base in The San Francisco Bay Area.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Lydia Martinez of Elk Grove CA, brother Richard Martinez of Sacramento CA, his daughter Juli West of Vancouver WA, his beloved sons and grandchildren.
Chief Martinez will be laid to rest at The Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on 17 October 2025 in Dixon CA with full honors.
