Randy S. Cassens

January 25, 1977 — May 20, 2022

Randall Scott Cassens
Elk Grove, California
Randall Scott Cassens went to be with Jesus on May 20, 2022. Randy was the son of Nicholas and
Linda Cassens. He was born at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, California on January 25, 1977. Randy
was raised in Pleasanton, California. He attended Pleasanton schools and graduated from Foothill High
School. Randy played on BUSC recreational soccer teams beginning with U8 and continuing through
U18. He attended the University of California Davis where he received his Bachelor of Science in
Agricultural Managerial Economics. He also played many pickup games of soccer at UC Davis. He
began working for Valley Media in Woodland, California until its bankruptcy. He worked for CTB/Kelly
Services in Rancho Cordova, California as a supervisor in educational test scoring for many states and
especially enjoyed his multiple trips to Qatar. He went to Qatar with a group of supervisors who were in
charge of training and supervising people from all over the Arab world in standards and scoring for
educational testing. Since this was only a part-time job Randy added an additional part time job,
working for UPS at the West Sacramento hub as a sorter. He always said one job worked the brain and
the other worked the body. Randy worked at UPS until his illness. He began as a sorter, did some work
as a backup driver, and finally got the job of his dreams as an internal auditor for UPS . HIs primary shift
was the graveyard shift so he had time to take care of his children.
Randy's greatest love was always reserved for his children: Allison (Ally), Austin, and Andrew. The 3
ABC's (their initials made them the 3 ABC's). As they grew older, Randy became a soccer coach,
referee, and board member of the Elk Grove Soccer Club. As a coach he believed that players should
enjoy the game. It was not win or lose. The two questions were "did you do your best" and "did you
have fun". The same philosophy encouraged by his own father, Nick. If the answers were "yes", that
was the only thing that was important.
Randy died from a rare form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). The month of April was
cholangiocarcinoma awareness month where green light bulbs replaced clear in outdoor lights to raise
awareness.
Randy died peacefully at home with his family under hospice care. He fought a very courageous battle
for 13 months and never gave up.
He is survived by a daughter Ally and sons Austin and Andrew. He is also survived by his parents Nick
and Linda Cassens of Pleasanton, California.
His legacy will live on through the many people whose lives he touched whether on the soccer field, as
a co-worker, a neighbor, or friends. He was a hard worker, a good son, a person always ready to give a
helping hand and most of all a great father. We love you forever, Randy.
