Phillip Mar

February 6, 1952 — February 15, 2025

Sacramento

Phillip passed away peacefully on February 15th, 2025 at the age of 73. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and at the age of 5 Phillip and his family moved to Sacramento which became his home for most of his adult life. Phillip was raised in a large household being the second oldest with 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He graduate from C.K. McClatchy High School and attended Sacramento City College. Phillip worked and retired from the grocery industry after 35 years when starting at the age of 16.

Phillip met Dorian in 1985 and they married on April 11, 1987. Together they built a blissful life. As dog lovers they had always one or more "fur babies" as part of their family. In 1999, Phillip and Dorian made the move to El Dorado Hills where they called home for over 25 years. As a child he and his brothers were introduced to fishing by his father which continued his love of fishing throughout his adult life. Being an avid fisherman, he happily shared his catch with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed his bass boat that he purchased from Tennessee that took a 3 day road trip to pick up! Living around the block from Folsom Lake was a dream come true. He always said it takes 3 minutes to get to the lake and launch his boat. Being in his boat, especially when the lake is calm and quiet, brought him a sense of peace and tranquility.

He and Dorian did a lot of traveling and camping in their younger years. They had tall tales of bear sightings and a couple of close encounters at their campsite. In later years Phillip stayed active working in his yard. His passion was growing baby Japanese maple trees from the seedlings that came from the adult trees with which he proudly shared with his family and friends. He also took up cycling with his E bike and always walked their 3-4 dogs at one time. Once Phillip was stopped by a stranger who asked if he was a professional dog walker! That person must have been desperate to have his dog(s) walked!

Phillip loved his family and always participated in family events. His 4th of July pool parties were epic for the seniors and the younger family members and close friends. The joy of cooking emerged later in life. His deep fried turkeys for Thanksgiving and roasted prime rib for New Years Eve were family favorites.

Phillip is survived by his wife Dorian of 37 years, and his beloved dogs, Jake, Kooper, and Jax, his loving mother Lon Mar, brothers Mikal and Alan, sisters Amy Fong (Rolland), Emily Tom (Warren), Carol Leong (Jerry) and Louise Kurashige (Keith), sister-in-laws Cathy and Laura and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law Corrine Joe, brother-in-law Gavin (Shelly) and godsons/nephews Brady and Ryan. He was predeceased by his father Thomas, brother Edward and father-in-law Stanley Joe.

Phillip enjoyed life to the fullest. He took whatever came his way with ease and dignity. His positive outlook, sense of humor, contagious laugh and smile will always be remembered.

Private services were held on March 22nd, 2025.
