Perla Reyes, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 11, 1941, in Pangasinan, Philippines, where she began a life defined by compassion, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Perla attended the University of the East in the Philippines where she earned a degree in Business Administration. In 1969, she immigrated to the United States in search of new opportunities and a brighter future. On October 31, 1970, she married the love of her life, Renato, in Belleville, New Jersey. Together they built a beautiful marriage filled with love, dedication, and determination that spanned more than five decades.
Perla and Renato eventually settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they lovingly raised their family. Together, they poured their hearts into several family businesses, including Asian Trading, The Rice Bowl restaurant, Perlin Industries, and the Golden Mile Ice Center. Through every endeavor, Perla's warmth, hard work, and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Renato; her children, Abigail (Kris), Andrew (Catherine), and Alex (Michelle); and her cherished grandchildren, Nina, Anna, Leah, Cecilia, and Camden. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she loved each of them unconditionally. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with them and watching them grow.
Perla was an avid hockey mom, spending countless hours cheering from the stands. She was also a passionate Pittsburgh sports fan who faithfully rooted for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Steelers, and Pirates throughout her life—even after she and Renato retired to California.
An exceptional cook, Perla found great happiness in bringing people together around a picnic or dinner table. She loved hosting family gatherings, sharing her beloved Filipino dishes, and learning recipes from cultures around the world. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and love, where everyone was welcomed and no one ever left hungry.
Those who knew Perla will remember her gentle spirit and extraordinary kindness. She was, in many ways, like the flowers in her gardens over the years that she cherished – graceful, resilient, and a source of beauty and comfort to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was slow to anger, quick to forgive, and lived each day with grace and humility. Yet, beneath her gentle grace was an unshakable strength that enabled her to face every challenge with courage and resilience.
Perla leaves behind a legacy of unconditional devotion to her family. Though she will be deeply missed, her example of kindness, strength, and love will forever remain a part of those whose lives she touched.
May she rest in eternal peace.
