Peggy Clayton Clauss born November 3, 1933 in Big Spring, Texas died from Alzheimer’s on May 8, 2025. Named after her deceased father, Clayton MacMurray, she went to nursery school only to be sent home with a new name, Peggy. The caretaker decided she was too sweet to have a man’s name. So Peggy was her name thereafter. Married and divorced young, she and her adored son, Van Richard, set off for Santa Monica on the invitation of a friend. She worked as a switchboard operator at McDonnell Douglas and as the company offered transfers to Sacramento a group of friends all moved. Peggy then married fellow Douglas employee, Stephen Teglovic. They had two daughters, Teri Diane and Sheri Ann. After 13 years of marriage they divorced and Peggy went to work at a downtown meat company, Clauss and Kraus. She met and later married John Clauss Jr and the two enjoyed a life filled with laughs, love, tennis, golf, work and family until he passed away in 1996. Devastated after John’s death, it wasn’t long that she was introduced to Allen Bender. The two had in common the loss of their spouses and were ready to get on with the final quarter of their lives. They traveled the world, golfed, flew in Allen’s plane and were a dynamic duo.

Peggy was known for a smile that would light up a room, infectious laugh and was always the life of the party with her Texas dance moves. She leaves behind Teri Valentine, husband John, grandkids Katie, Taylor and Hazel, Sheri Remson, grandson, Jack III and great grandchildren Jack IV and James.
