Pamela Denise Emick, 70, of Elk Grove, California, passed away peacefully on December 15th, 2024 at Kaiser South Sacramento hospital.
Pam was born on June 21st, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to Shelby Gordon Lee and Loretta Gail Scott.
Pam’s parents divorced when she was three and she and her mom moved around to many places, eventually settling in Sacramento.
On October 2,1973 she met the love of her life, Daniel Emick, through mutual friends, and they married September 28, 1974. In December of 1975 they welcomed their dear daughter, Tiffany, and their family was complete.
Pam worked for the State of California for many years, and decided to pursue her passion of fire science and studied hard at the local community college and then began her career as a Fire Inspector- a career she cherished until her retirement. A favorite memory of Tiffany’s is when Pam would come to inspect her high school when there was a fire drill, and as the student’s were lined up outside, some students would call out, “Hi Tiffany’s mom!” as Pam walked around the campus in her uniform. It made Tiffany beam with pride.
Pam loved her role as wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and Daughter of God. She was known for her deep faith, kind heart, sense of humor, determination, and strong convictions. Pam was deeply spiritual and after she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1977, she was extremely active in her faith community. She enjoyed serving others and the various callings she held. She and Daniel were active learners and doers. Everyone benefited from Pam’s emergency preparation zeal, for as soon as she learned something about it, she was eager to pass on the information through wonderful newsletters as well as taught classes in the community.
Pam had all kinds of interests and hobbies. She loved music, singing, reading, piano, writing books, movies, cooking/baking, researching family history, reading and collecting comics such as Spiderman and Calvin and Hobbes, cruises to Alaska, sewing, gardening, canning, emergency prep, karate, guns, science fiction, and was fascinated by the stars and space. Yes, she was a Trekky. She is a published author, having written fiction and non-fiction, as well as magazine articles. She loved her Toyota 4Runners that she had over the years, and even just recently bought another one, replacing the Tesla- the Tesla was great, but her love for the 4Runner never diminished. She had a zest for learning with Daniel and together they garnered Master Gardener certifications, HAM Radio certifications, and Disaster Response Certifications (CERT). Pam’s wealth of knowledge in all of these subjects was a great benefit to the community as she tried very hard to get everyone around her prepared. Pam was an organized person and thought ahead. She gave wonderful advice and was a cheerleader to all. She radiated positivity and had the brightest smile. She enjoyed being silly and the family would quote movie quotes with each other and laugh. She was a rock and everyone knew they could count on her. She kept up the social calendar in her marriage and was the great communicator. She was a loving and loyal wife and loved doting on Daniel. Her family was always her greatest concern. She had said she was blessed with the best in-laws. They always supported her and she appreciated that. She also has many dear friends that she adored- too many to name but you know who you are. She treasured her friendships. Last but not least, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, whom she served until the very end.
She is survived by her sweet husband Daniel, to whom she just celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary, her daughter Tiffany, and grandchildren, Jake (14), Gabi (17), Rachael (24), and grandson-in-law, Aaron Channer.
Pam left a lasting legacy of faith and testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ, her kind and welcoming spirit, and eagerness for life that inspires all who know her. Her memory will be cherished and she will be deeply missed. Let’s just end this by saying that Pam is SO COOL!
