Willie M. Diggs, a beloved wife, mother, and dedicated public servant, passed away on April 13, 2026, of natural causes. She was 80 years old.
Born on December 12, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia, Willie built a life defined by quiet determination, warmth, and an unwavering commitment to those around her. Willie married her husband on July 17, 1965, and spent 20 years as a proud military wife with the United States Air Force, living in North Dakota, Germany and Arizona, before settling down in California. She also devoted 23 years to the State of California, beginning her career as a key data operator with the Department of Motor Vehicles and rising through the ranks to retire as a Staff Services Manager I with the Department of Health Services in their Budget Office. Her professional journey was a testament to her intelligence, work ethic, and dedication to excellence.
Beyond her career, Willie was deeply engaged in her community, leading a multiple sclerosis support group for many years and offering guidance and encouragement to those navigating difficult circumstances. She was an avid reader who could often be found lost in a good book, and she never turned down an opportunity to try her luck at the slot machines. Those who knew her well also knew of her great love for a good piece of New York style cheesecake.
Willie was, above all, intelligent and kind woman who touched the lives of everyone she met with grace and generosity of spirit.
She is survived by her loving husband, Edward L. Diggs, Sr.; and her two devoted sons, Edward L. Diggs, Jr. and David A. Diggs.
May she rest in God's eternal peace.
A service celebrating Willie's life will be held on April 28, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at East Lawn Cemetery and Funeral Home, located at 9189 East Stockton BLVD in Elk Grove. Family and friends are welcome to gather in her memory and honor.
