Verna Bromagen

March 26, 1913 — October 10, 2008

VERNA ELIZABETH BROMAGEM PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY ON OCTOBER 1O, 2008. She was born on March 26, 1913 to Joseph and Elizabeth Dennis of Oak Park, Sacramento where she grew up. Verna was proud to be a 2nd generation Californian. Her life reflected a pioneer spirit and she was in all things a "Daughter of the Golden West". She graduated from Sacramento High School and attended Sacramento Jr. College and the University of California, Berkley. Verna was a gifted musician and spent many years teaching piano. Her love of music and anything musical lead her into singing for Church Choirs and Choral Groups. Among one of Verna's many passions was her affiliation with the Camp Fire Girls national organization in Sacramento between 1945 and 1975. She held many volunteer positions and was the Chairman of the Sacramento Area Council Camp Fire Girls board of directors for two terms during the 1950s. She was presented the prestigious Gulick Award for her service. Verna was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, Sacramento. She served on the Womens Society there and held numerous offices. She, along with her late husband, Mort, were Youth Ministry Directors at a time when it was difficult to find those who would work at youth out-reach. She was a 50 year member of Oak Park IOOF Rebecca Lodge No. 5, and a long time member of the Tuesday Club, Sacramento. She also belonged to the P.E.O. Sisters organization. During WWII when Mort worked at McClelland Army Air Base, Verna would accompany him and work as a volunteer at the Base hospital making bandages and knitting socks for the wounded. Above all, her service to her beloved Sacramento was her most proud achievement. In all things, she was the first to volunteer her time and her talents. Verna married Charles Morton "Mort" Bromagem on July 31, 1937 at Oak Park Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, seven grand children, and seven great grand children. Family and Friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday October 15 from 3 to 5 PM at the East Lawn Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday October 16 at 11 AM at the East Lawn Chapel, 43rd and Folsom Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor her memory with a contribution to your favorite charity. Verna, as you raise your beautiful voice in praise with the Angels now, we bid you farewell on your journey and wish you peace and serenity. You will be missed!
