Phyllis Schmidt Johnson

June 7, 1923 — July 4, 2004

JOHNSON, PHYLLIS SCHMIDT Phyllis was a native of Idaho. She was born in Burley, ID on June 7, 1923 to Harry J. and Katie Larsen Schmidt. She attended schools in Burley and graduated from Burley High School in 1941. After graduation she worked as a secretary with the Crouch Insurance Agency in Burley, the Greyhound Bus Co. in Vallejo/Mare Island, CA and several government agencies. She was working as a secretary to the head of the Federal Reclamation Project in Burley when she met Norman S. Johnson, who was working summers at the Reclamation Project while attending engineering classes at the University of Idaho. They were married June 12, 1949. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, their three children: Karen Bjork of Orangevale, CA , Nancy Gibbs of Austin, TX, and Scott Johnson of Santa Barbara, CA and their four grandchildren: Brian Bjork, Steven Bjork, Casandra Gibbs and Kevin Gibbs. She is also survived by four siblings: LaVerne McKinster of Twin Falls, ID, Catherine Busch of Boise, ID, Virgil J. Schmidt of Pocatello, ID and Billy G. Schmidt of Burley, ID. A brother, Ray Schmidt, preceded her in death. After marriage, she decided to devote the energy and efficiency of working as a secretary to being a homemaker in a Christian home. Phyllis knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her efforts are praised by her husband and her three children, who benefited tremendously from her efforts. At their wedding celebration at 1102 Muir Court, Roseville, California where they have lived for 26 years, the gift from the children was inscribed “Norm and Phyllis Johnson, 55 years of loving each other, June 12, 2004”. That same inscription applies to the entire family. Phyllis Johnson’s patience, love, and understanding was responsible for this. Friends are welcome for visitation on Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00PM and are invited to attend services Monday at 10:00 AM at East Lawn Mortuary, 5757 Greenback Lane.
