Max L. Dimick, M.D.

May 18, 1917 — October 2, 2004

Benefactor of Arden-Dimick Library Passes Away Max L. Dimick, M.D. Beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Max L. Dimick passed away quietly at the age of 87 in his Sacramento home of fifty years on Saturday, October 2. Born in Bancroft, Idaho on May 18, 1917 Max, widower of Nadine Dimick and predeceased by his son Paul, is survived by his son Dan, daughter-in-law Dorothy, granddaughters Trina, April, and Mandi and great grandchildren Nikki, Shelby, Kolby and Tyler and sisters Nell and Elise. Growing up on an Idaho farm as one of seven children, he and his brothers and sisters developed a strong sense of family and of helping one another throughout their lives and especially through school. He graduated from Stanford University’s School of Medicine in 1944 and later served as an Army Captain and Chief of Surgical Services in the Philippines in World War II. In 1949 he married Nadine Vann, a practicing nurse, and moved to Sacramento where he set up his practice as an obstetrician and gynecologist. In his near thirty-five years as a medical doctor in Sacramento, he delivered over five thousand babies and served both as President of the local Medical Association and as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at U.C. Davis. In 1969 he further volunteered his time and skills spending it on the Hospital Ship Hope practicing medicine in Tunisia, Africa. Max loved life, his family and the community in which he lived. He was a family man first and foremost and saw to it that both of his boys were raised with strong values and that they received college educations. He was an avid golfer and could often be found out at Del Paso Country Club where he was a member for nearly forty years. With his beloved wife Nadine at his side, the two were inseparable when it came to community events and socializing with friends. After retiring from medicine, Max turned his attention to the business world and became an avid investor in the stock market and further learned the world of personal computers. The two sad points in his life were the losses of his son Paul who died in 1996 after a lifelong battle with respiratory problems and his darling wife Nadine who died suddenly last year at 82 and after over fifty years of marriage. Max also gave of himself to the community in which he lived. Both in his time and with money he was a champion for a number of causes. Most notably, in 1998 he and his wife donated the funds necessary to remodel and add to the now Arden-Dimick library on Watt Avenue. At the time, it was the largest charitable donation given to the library community in the Sacramento area and a project that both Max and Nadine were deeply involved with. He was loved and cherished by all and most of all by his family. He will be missed but we know that he left a special mark on all he touched and are comforted in knowing that he at last is with his wife once again. A service to honor and remember Max Dimick’s life will be held this Saturday, October 9th at 2:00 p.m. at the East Lawn Mortuary on 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Arden-Dimick Library or to U.C. Davis Hospice Funeral Home: East Lawn Mortuary 5757 Greenback Lane Sacramento, CA US 95841
