MESSER, JOHN D. John Dickinson Messer (a.k.a. Jack, Papou, Dad and Pop) lived a full and prosperous life from August, 14, 1915 to November, 26, 2004. Born in Spokane, Washington, he graduated from the University of Washington school of Mechanical Engineering in 1939. John served in both the Army ROTC and Navy reserve from 1935 – 1956. John retired from a 27 year career with the State of California as a Mechanical Engineer while working in the Division of Architecture and State Land Departments. He has contributed to community and church through his many public activities, namely Boy Scouts of America, the Presbyterian Church and participation in many volunteer groups. He is survived by his wife Gertrude, five children, eleven grandchildren and eleven and a half great grandchildren. John will be remembered by all whom new and loved him as a caring, supportive husband, father, grandfather and friend. Services will be held at the East Lawn Mortuary on December 2, Thursday at 2:00 pm. The East Lawn Mortuary is located at 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA. 95841-2096.
