JONES, BILLY J. (JONESY)
Billy J. Jones, born 1/5/1936 in Hackett Arkansas, succumbed to a two year battle with cancer on April 11, 2005. Bill or âJonesyâ as he is known by his friends retired in 1996 as the Sacramento Kings trainer. He had been with the franchise for 23 years coming from KC when the team was originally brought to Sacramento. Prior to being with the Kings he had been a trainer for 15 years in professional baseball, including the Aâs and Royals teams and a co-owner of a sports rehab clinic in Kansas City. He was inducted in the Missouri Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 1984 and was voted by his peers as the NBA Athletic Trainer of the Year 1995. Jonesy was highly respected and loved by all; front office, coaching staff, players, trainers, family, f riends, and all whose paths he crossed. He felt the greatest pride however, not in his own accomplishments but in those made by his family. Jonesy is survived by Joyce, his wife of 27 years; daughters and sons-in-laws, Angela & Steve, Connie & Loren, Jennifer & Jason; his son Justin; 6 grandchildren, Chelse, Mackenzie, Taylor, Bryce, Kelsi, and Zakary. Survived also by his brother Jim Jones, sister Dorothy Gilman and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome for visitation noon to 5 pm Sunday and are invited to attend services 10 am Monday April 18, 2005 at EAST LAWN MORTUARY, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento. Entombment private East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park . The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions to the Shriners Childrens Hospital may be made in his memory.
