Norma W. On

Norma Wong On, age 95, passed away on August 15, 2023, with many of her loved ones by her side. She was born on January 20, 1928 to Sam and Ann Wong and was the third oldest of eight children. Norma graduated from Sacramento High School and San Jose State University majoring in Education. Norma was hired as one of the first Asian American educators teaching fifth grade in the Washington School District in West Sacramento.

On August 3, 1952, Norma married John Lew On and left her teaching career to become one of the first Asian American business owners in Sacramento. Norma and John owned and operated Jon’s Home Furnishers starting in 1952, the business stayed open for over 57 years.

Norma was a trailblazer, savvy investor, servant leader and philanthropist. She supported the Chinese Community Church and many organizations.

Norma will be remembered for her kind spirit, generous heart and dedication to her family, friends, and business associates. She truly loved skiing and tennis, traveling the world, eating at her favorite restaurants, enjoying Broadway shows, cheering on her sports teams, and most importantly studying the stock market and watching CNBC. She is our newest angel and will be dearly missed by all of us.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Laura Leong and Diane Fong, and husband, John who passed away in 1991.

Norma is survived by her only brother, Edward Wong, four sisters Arvella Fong, Elaine Kurashige, LaBelle Matsuura and Merle Yamasaki, and 22 nieces and nephews, 34 grand-nieces and nephews and 9 great-grand nieces and nephews.
