Sacramento

Miller ‘John’ Maglinte suffered a major heart event and passed away at his home on January 11th, 2024, while surrounded by members of his loving family. John was born in Hilo, Hawaii on March 4th, 1938. When he was 15 years old, he came over with his parents to visit relatives in Isleton, California. Eventually, he and his family would decide to make Isleton their permanent home and in doing so find very fulfilling livelihoods.

After graduating from high school, he attained a draftsman position with the Federal Government, working his way up to Hydrologic Technician. John maintained a high standard of commitment and dedication to his work and because of his excellent work ethic he was presented with several achievement awards leading to a promotion that allowed him to be part of the engineering team. He ended his career in a supervisory position. John stayed employed with the United States Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation for 38 years, and retired in 1996.

John married his high school sweetheart, Alice Cabog, in 1958. Along side his wife, John commuted from Isleton to Sacramento for 36 years and the pair were able to help each other put their four children through college.

John’s favorite pastimes were fishing, bowling, treating his family to dinner, and frequenting his favorite casinos. He also loved spending time with family and friends at Lake Tahoe.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Simeon and Kiyoko Maglinte, brothers August Maglinte (wife Rosario), Octavio ‘Sabu’ Maglinte (wife Naomi), Jack Murashige, Raymond Maglinte; sisters Rosalita (Maglinte) Reagan (husband Howard), Rosalia Maglinte.

He leaves behind wife of 65 years, Alice Maglinte, sons; Matthew Maglinte (wife Janet), Marty Maglinte (wife Belinda), Monty Maglinte (wife Denise), and daughter Michelle (Maglinte) Sullivan (husband Kelly), and seven grandchildren; Cyrus and Kaelus Maglinte, Tyler and Allison Maglinte, Sofia Maglinte, Ian and Camille Sullivan.

John’s Memorial and Celebration of Life is scheduled to be held in the Spring. We will share information with family and friends when the time comes.
