Carmichael, California - Michele Mitchell Malovos, 77, passed away peacefully in Carmichael on December 28, 2021 surrounded by her family, after a 15 year battle with Interstitial Lung Disease. Michele was known to her family and friends as a courageous, warm and engaging woman who always tried to help others. She gave her love and support to many in the Sacramento community and beyond.

Michele was born in 1944 in El Paso, Texas, to Louis and Jean Mitchell, the eldest of three daughters. She graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1962, where she especially enjoyed participating in the drama club. During this time, she represented the State of New Mexico in the American Junior Miss Pageant and the Miss Wool of America Pageant. She graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech. After some time in Denver as a high school teacher, she made her way to San Francisco where she met Ken Malovos, a student at UC Hastings College of the Law. It was love at first sight and they were soon married. Their two children, Laura and Mark, followed. While Ken worked as an attorney in the Sacramento County Public Defender's office, Michele maintained the home.

Eventually, she worked at People Reaching Out, a drug prevention agency, and Lyon Real Estate, where she was a realtor for 17 years, attaining Lifetime Master Club status. She was a member of Flying I Toastmasters for over 30 years, where she earned the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) recognition, the highest honor Toastmasters International awards nationally to an individual. Through the years, she mentored many members in the art of speaking. She was also an active member and leader in the Creative Initiative Foundation and Beyond War, during the 1970s and '80s. More recently she has been involved with various environmental groups, voting projects, book clubs, a play reading group and several women's groups. Some of her interests included dancing, cooking, and going to a music concert or a live theater performance.

Michele and Ken traveled extensively to Europe, the Middle East, China, South America and throughout the United States. Her fondest memories were listening to Russian opera singers in St. Petersburg, riding a horse on a beach in the Caribbean, visiting Istanbul and Israel and an epic trip with her family to Croatia.

Michele is survived by her husband and soul-mate, Kenneth Mark Malovos, her children, Laura Malovos Lambertus (spouse, Erik) and Mark Mitchell Malovos (spouse, Heather), and four grandchildren, Meriel and Margot Malovos and Jack and Emily Lambertus. She is also survived by her two sisters, Robin Sequeira and Lisa Mitchell, her sister-in-law, Mitzi Malovos Konevich, her brother-in-law, Jerry Malovos, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, with whom she maintained special relationships. She will be missed by so many.

A Celebration of Life will occur in the spring of 2022. Family and friends wishing to make a donation in Michele's memory may contribute to WEAVE, Sacramento Food Bank, Loaves and Fishes or to the charity of their choice.
