Michael John Litvinchuk

December 13, 1946 — July 9, 2022

Michael John Litvinchuk was born December 13, 1946 in Duluth, Minnesota. The family moved to California in 1950 and he became the oldest of 9 siblings. He graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School in 1966, then attended California State University in Hayward for two years.
While working at Montgomery Ward he met Karen Kattenhorn and they wed in September 1968.
Mike served eight years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was awarded Marine Reservist of the Year, and honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
He joined the San Leandro Fire Department in 1972 and was a Firefighter, Engineer ,then Captain and spent the majority of his 30 year career as Training Officer for Alameda County Fire Department. He was lead instructor of the Chabot College Fire Academy and worked on training manuals and comitees at the national level. Mike was selected California Fire Training Officer of the Year. He most enjoyed running training academies for the new hires in the Alameda County Fire Department.
After retiring in 2001 he and Karen moved to Elk Grove and also purchased land in Gridley where he enjoyed growing many types of roses, fruits and vegetables. Mike was also interested in building model railroads.
Mike is survived by Karen, his wife of 53 years, children Lisa Howard, Erik Litvinchuk, and Katherine Harris, 6 grandchildren, 7 siblings and many nieces and nephews. He was happiest travelling and spending time with his family.
