Michael Anthony Gorletti, 60 Years of age, passed away Saturday, April 13th 2024, at UC Davis Medical Center. Known by many as Mikey or Mike.
Michael was born August 9th, 1963, in Stockton Ca to the Late Mary Lou Gianelli and Anthony Alamo. He was the youngest of three children. Michael loved trips to Santa Cruz and beach days with his brother, sister, and cousins. Michael began his education at Sacramento City College where he received double AA degrees, and then continued to receive his BA in Sociology at CSUS. Michael was recently enrolled and pursuing his Master’s degree as well.
Michael loved animals, art, nature, trying new foods, watching the Giants/Niners/Kings games, celebrating all holidays, swimming, Santa Cruz, Starbucks, long walks in the fall weather, reading, taking pictures, but most of all he loved helping people. He spent his time helping others in need, he loved his family and friends, and always had jokes to tell. Most of all Michael was the best uncle, brother, spouse and friend. Michael loved laughing and enjoying time, and long conversations with his sister and brother. He always put others first and did it with a smile. He loved making people feel like they belong and that everyone deserved a second chance. He had an especially close bond with his beloved Niece, and he had many adventures with her.
Michael was an extremely valued member of many programs at both CSUS and Sacramento City college. Mike's passion laid in helping those reentering society find both a path towards education and employment. His kindness and passion for this work was his driving force to serve our community of formerly incarcerated students. He gave his heart to his work as the lead intake case manager for the re-emerging scholars program at Sacramento City College as well as a peer mentor with Project Rebound at Sacramento State University where he fostered numerous relationships with both faculty and students to ensure that they found the resources they needed to pursue their education goals. He loved and cared about every student who came into his office and always made you feel welcome. He fought for quality education and resources for these students. Mike worked as well for Leaders in Community Alternatives as a case manager working with those that were impacted by the justice system to find a better life. He led widely popular groups and engaged every client like they were family. While doing these amazing things he was also a full-time student who earned his BA in Sociology and gave numerous presentations on the importance of education and community. Michael also served as a lead mentor for the sociology department. He sacrificed his time out of his extremely busy schedule to help others so they can succeed not just in the pursuit of their academics but also in all areas of their lives. He was pivotal in the success of many students and people who either worked with or are involved in the justice system. His passion for this work was unmatched by anyone within our community of formerly incarcerated scholars. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Forever loved as the honorable man he was.
Michael leaves to cherish his loving memory, His spouse Arlene, his Big Sister Erika, His Big Brother Tony, His Niece’s, His Nephew’s, his brother and sister in-law, countless Cousins, Extended family, Dear Friends and Colleagues. He is preceded in Death by His Mother, Mary Lou Gianelli, and his beloved dog Lowrider.
