Mark Lawrence Preston, aged 65 passed away peacefully on the morning of July 10th with his wife, hospice nurse and support giver by his side. He was born to Frank Creighton Preston and Janet Carolyn Gingrich Preston on July 30, 1957 at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California and was the oldest of three children.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from the California State University Hayward in 1983. On September 27, 1986 he married Kimberly Lynn Stivers. They raised a son and a daughter, Christopher and Jennifer.
Mark had a passion for model railroading in HO scale. He had planned a huge layout in his garage and had built many kits and buildings from scratch out of various materials. His attention to the smallest details really made his towns come to life.
Mark’s other passion was the California Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a proud long time member serving in many different capacities. He was very honored and proud to be voted in as the Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of the State of California for the 2021-2022 session. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling to all of the encampments in the state, meeting members and encouraging fellowship and ideas to bring in new members.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Frank and his mother, Janet. He is survived by his wife Kim, his two children, Christopher (Nicole) and Jennifer (Jose), grandchildren Riley, Matt, Nicky, Connor and Jocelyn, his brothers Whitney (Morgan) and Brian (Stacey), and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery
