Mark Clifton Carley: A Life of Dedication and Love

Mark Clifton Carley, affectionately known as "Kaboobie" by his longtime friends, transitioned on March 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 7, 1955, at Parks Air Force Base in Dublin, CA, to Edward “Eddie” R. Carley Jr. and Jacqueline Carley, Mark was the second of four children.
Mark's early life was marked by his academic and athletic prowess. He graduated from Luther Burbank High School, Class of '74, where he excelled in track and field, particularly the 100-meter hurdles. His passion for athletics continued as he pursued higher education at Sacramento City College and Fresno State University. In May 1981, Mark graduated from California State University of Sacramento, with a degree in Business Administration.
Following his graduation, Mark embarked on a career with the California Department of Corrections, dedicating 23 years of service before retiring in 2009.
In 1981, Mark married Carol Lewis, and together they had two children, Ja’Nice and Clifton Carley. Mark was deeply involved in his community, participating in various recreational activities, sports, and social clubs. As one of the original coaches of the MP Striders Track Club, he played an integral role in mentoring and teaching youth the sport he loved.
Mark was preceded in death by his father, Edward “Eddie” Carley Jr. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Jacqueline Carley; his children, Ja’Nice Carley and Clifton Carley and his wife, Tina Carley; his siblings, Brenda Carley, Donna Tyler and her husband, Foster Tyler, and Edward Carley III, as well as his former wife, Carol Carley; his grandchildren, Takai, Nathaniel, Titus, Jayla, and Caedynn; his niece, Carlie Ransom; and his nephew, Edward Carley IV and additionally, a host of extended family, cousins, and friends, whose lives were touched by Mark’s love. Also is his beloved pet and our cherished family member Dee Dee dog, who passed shortly after. They are both with us in spirit and memory.
Mark Clifton Carley's legacy is one of dedication, love, and community involvement. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
