Marina Bettina O'Gorman

December 2, 1961 — May 8, 2023

Marina O’Gorman, 61, went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 8, 2023 while at her home in Elk Grove, Ca, after a 4 year long battle with cancer.

Marina was born December 2, 1961 to Wilhelm and Marianne Grotheer in San Jose, Ca. As a young girl, Marina was baptized at Bethel Lutheran Church and later in life reconnected to God and her faith and believed in the hope of Christ and eternal life in heaven.

She married Frank O’Gorman on April 7, 1984 and together they had 4 children; Sean, Ryan, Kelsey, and Courtney. Marina was the type of mom to make the dinners, keep a clean and tidy home, chauffeur kids from here to there, have a fully stocked pantry for the neighborhood kids, help with homework, go to work and still make time for friends.

Anyone who knew Marina, knew how much she loved and cared for people. Marina always made sure to maintain and nurture her relationships with family and friends. She scheduled the lunch dates, made the phone calls, sent the cards, lent a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, and was the voice of reason. Marina was also a firm believer in the importance of hard work and the pursuit of an  education. In May of 2000, Marina graduated from the Sacramento City College Nursing Program. It was only fitting that Marina chose to dedicate 23 years of her life to a career as a labor and delivery nurse at UC Davis Medical Center.

Marina also loved to have a good time, but always worked hard to make sure everyone else around her was having an even better time. She was very social and loved to host a festive holiday party and especially  decorate the house for all to see. Marina loved to soak up the sun; whether it be by tending to her garden, tanning in the backyard, or relaxing at the beach with a drink in one hand and a good book in the other.

The one thing Marina loved more than anything else in the world was her family. Marina was a kind and respectful daughter, a caring and helpful sister, a loving and faithful wife, an honest and nurturing mother, and a generous and doting grandma. Marina loved her husband, Frank, and created a beautiful life together for 39 years. She was proud of her children and did everything she could to make sure they were happy; and she spoiled her grandkids and enjoyed every moment she had with them. She has truly left her mark on the world. She taught us how to work hard for the things we want, to be grateful for the things we have and give to those less fortunate. She regularly donated to local charities and wanted to set the example for her children and grandchildren to follow. Marina lived life to the fullest and fought hard to make sure to have as much time possible with her loved ones. Marina was a bright light and joyful spirit who will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

Marina is survived by her husband Frank, children, Sean (Michelle), Ryan (Rebekah), Kelsey (Anthony), and Courtney; grandkids Sophia, Austin, Viviana, Christopher, Nora, Ava, and Maverick; sister Annette and parents Wilhelm and Marianne. She is preceded in death by her brother Jens.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 1pm at the East Lawn Chapel located at 9189 East Stockton Blvd. Elk Grove CA 95624; with Pastor Joe Dapelo of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church officiating. Reception to follow at the family’s home in Elk Grove.
