Margie Elizabeth Helms Hughes

Margie grew up as a sharecropper's daughter in North Carolina. She was the first in her family to pursue education beyond high school. Margie became an R.N., married Clay Hughes, and moved to California to "make their fortune." Margie and Clay celebrated 70 years of marriage before Clay passed in 2021.
They enjoyed many adventures, including raising 2 daughters, Judy and Vickie. Many fishing trips, Sunday drives, and traveling to see beautiful California natural treasures followed.
Yearly car trips back to NC and Tennessee to visit family became a tradition. Mom and Dad "showed us the world" with all the sites we visited driving cross country.
Mom passed peacefully at 94 years of age. She was deeply loved by many and will be truly missed. Margie is survived by Vickie (Matt Valine), Judy (Larry Meade) and grandchildren Tracey Meade and Andrew and Katie Silaj.
