Loy Hem Locke

Loy H. Locke Jr, 63, died surrounded by family and went to be with the Lord on March 19, 2023, after a battle with cancer complicated by a stroke. He was a committed Christian and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. 

He was born to the late Loy and Faye Locke on August 8, 1959. By God’s grace, he became a Christian in Junior High and began getting involved at San Francisco Bible Church. After high school, he studied at San Jose State University and graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He later moved to Sacramento, California after meeting his eventual wife, Arlene Toy, and they were married on November 27, 1988. He spent over 30 years working for various California State Departments as an IT professional. 

Loy spent much of his time thinking about others, whether his family, friends, church, or community. He taught and modeled the Bible’s teaching on love, humility, and generosity to everyone who crossed his path, though he particularly enjoyed teaching children. Loy could be counted on to have the right gadgets and emergency supplies to fit any situation in his cargo pants, the trunk of his van, or his garage. When he had moments of leisure, he enjoyed science fiction, notably Star Trek, and was interested in practicing and watching martial arts. He also loved playing tennis with friends, photographing the great outdoors and family gatherings, and cooking up memorable meals in the kitchen. He had a special bond with his goldendoodles, Thumper and Ellie.

Loy is survived by his wife Arlene; his sons Anthony (Natalie), Chris (Leah), his daughter Katie, his grandchildren Violet, Rose, Ryle, Calvin, and Judah, and many nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life service for Loy is scheduled for 2 pm on April 22, 2023, with a reception to follow at Chinese Grace Bible Church (6656 Park Riviera Way, Sacramento, CA 95831). Please
