Lorraine Agnes Remme
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Lorraine Agnes Remme, who passed peacefully on February 5, 2025, at Cali Care Retirement Home in Fair Oaks, California. She was 96 years old.
Lorraine was born on Aug. 19, 1928, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to beloved parents, James and Ella McLucas. She had wonderful memories of growing up in rural Pennsylvania, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
After graduating from Hollidaysburg High School in 1947, she pursued a love and passion that would remain with her the rest of her life: caring for babies and young children. In 1948, she earned an infant’s nurse certificate from Pittsburg Home for Babies and cared for newborns there and at Mercy Hospital.
In July 1955, she moved across country with her parents and younger brother Jim, settling in East Sacramento. She worked at Kress, a local five-and-dime store, and for the State of California after completing comptometer school.
She soon met and fell in love with Stanley Remme, a World War II veteran and welder working at McClellan Air Force Base. They married at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Oct. 4, 1958, and honeymooned in Southern California, where they visited Knott’s Berry Farm and the new theme park, Disneyland.
Together, Lorraine and Stan raised three children in College Greens, in a home she loved and where she would remain until the age of 95.
Lorraine loved her roles as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, attending church, visiting with neighbors over coffee, making things for others, and attending family gatherings and celebrations. Her faith in God was deep and her love for all people evident.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Stan, and her mother and father, Ella and James McLucas. She is survived by her children Pedar (Dawn), Mark, and Lisa (Jeff); grandchildren Lindsey, Megan, Gavin, and Annika; brother Jim; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, at 11 a.m., at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1701 L Street, Sacramento, followed by a reception at the church. A graveside service will be held after the reception at East Lawn & Sierra Hills Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children.
