Letha Bess Wong

March 20, 1937 — September 14, 2024

Costa Mesa

Born March 20, 1937 and raised on a farm in rural (Fayette County) Hawkeye, Iowa, Letha Bess and her brother Layton moved to Sutherlin, Oregon, when she was 15 years old. Lee - to those who knew her - graduated from Sutherlin High School. In 1956 she and 2 girlfriends moved to Sacramento, CA to look for better employment. What she found was a life, a love and a family to carry her into her late 80’s.

Lee married Ronnie Wong in 1964 after they met when she began working at Bel Air Markets. They lived in town at the beginning of their marriage, buying their first home together for $100 down and $100 closing. Rural life called them back to the country where they built a home on the outskirts of Elk Grove, eventually retiring to a farm in Wisconsin. Together they raised 7 children, did countless home projects and traveled extensively.

Preceded in death by mother Laura Bell Johnson, father Leo, sister Anita, brother Layton Ferguson and son George Galli, Lee is survived by her husband Ron, daughter Maria Galli-Ciscoe, daughter Yvette Hardesty (m. Joe Hardesty,) son Dean Wong, son Dennis Wong (m. Carolyn Wong,) son Darin Wong (m. Rhoda Wong,) daughter Rhonda Knipp and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Known for her ready smile, quick wit and piercing blue eyes, Lee left a legacy of devotion and love for her family. She leaves a hole in our hearts as she rests in God’s hands until we meet again.
