Leri Royal Peterson, an avid New York Yankee fan, passed suddenly on March 6th, 2023 at Mercy San Juan Hospital, Carmichael Ca. at the age of 66.
Leri was born April 14, 1965 in Staten Island, New York first born son to Germana & Loryn Peterson. Leri’s father was career military so Leri was very fortunate at an early age with traveling Europe, Italy & living in Germany, New York, Arizona, Virginia, Idaho and various California locations.
Rancho Cordova Ca. is where Leri thrived in High School, basketball and track.
Leri graduated from Cordova High School – Go Lancers – in 1974, and enlisted in the US Air Force July 12, 1974.
Leri completed his specialized training, and work in the Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller.
He married Christine Arnold (Peterson) and in 1982 they had their beloved daughter Jillian. Leri was a very proud father, who loved to coach Jillian in sports in her younger years. The marriage later ended in divorce.
After leaving the Air Force, Leri worked for the US Postal service, as a postal carrier for almost 20 years, where he also served as the union shop steward. Leri’s friendly personality was such an inspiration to others, and his interactions with his customers made many lifelong friends from his delivery routes.
After retirement he had several part time jobs to keep him busy, until he finally “retired”.
In retirement he volunteered with the VA groups, reading many books, and continued to watch his beloved sports.
Always rooting for his New York Yankees, NY Giants, Rangers, Lakers, USC & UCLA. Leri’s brilliant keen mind on statistics of sports players, games, scores and team histories was very admirable.
Leri will be remembered for his easy smile, gentle kindness, love of family & gifted mind.
Leri is survived by his daughter Jillian Peterson, sister Loredana Spinas (Scott), brother Leonard Peterson,
niece Michaela Baxter, nephew Royal Peterson, step-mother Uta Peterson, aunt Joann Schloesser (Larry), aunt Dixie Miller (Richard), many great nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
He was preceded on death by his parents, sister Louisa, & grandparents.
In lieu of funeral services, and to honor Leri’s request & wishes, internment to spend eternity among the seas, his
ashes will be sprinkled at sea a later date.
