Leonard David Walker was born November 14, 1931 at Placerville, CA to David and Zelpha Walker. He passed away March 21, 2023 in Roseville, CA. Leonard's mother was part of pioneer and gold mining families in Grizzly Flats, El Dorado County. His father was the son of Severin and Rosa Walker, Swiss immigrants in the Oak Hill area. He established relationships with relatives in Switzerland.
Leonard attended school in El Dorado, CA. He graduated from El Dorado High School as a "49er". He enlisted in the US Navy and spent most of his time on the East Coast, Massachusetts, and several trips to Europe, which he enjoyed. When he returned to California he worked at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Sacramento for the state. He met Gloria Mapes, the niece of a coworker. They were married in 1956 and were together for 66 years. She survives him. He is also survived by nieces, Diane Besse and Judy Grant.
Growing up in El Dorado County, he loved camping, fishing, and hunting in the mountains. A favorite family place was Wrights Lake. In the Sacramento area, Leonard worked many years at Aerojet and Sacramento Municipal Utilities District. He was a valuable member of Roseville Kiwanis Club for several years.
Leonard and Gloria attended many Elderhostel programs and trips. They have lived in the Roseville area for many years. The current location of Eskaton Village. Services for Leonard will be private.
